What are some pros and cons of having a hybrid car in a traditional gas powered car?

I am thinking of buying a Prius, or a Corolla. What are the pros and cons? Thank you.

Pros: You feel good about yourself because you think you are doing something for the environment. Cons: The huge waste of money. You will not ever break even. In considering a hybrid vehicle that you have to consider their point of equilibrium. What I mean is the point where they have saved enough gas money to offset the difference in added cost of the hybrid option. Lets take two cars. First, the Toyota Prius 2009. The price of a Prius starts at $ 22,000. It gets 48 City MPG, 45 mpg highway. Just for comparison I go to the city average and mileage roads is 46.5 MPG Then there is the 2009 Corolla. The price of a Corolla starts at $ 15,350. It gets 26 mpg city, 35 mpg highway. Just for comparison I average over the city and highway mileage is 30.5 MPG The price difference for these vehicles is $ 6,650 Calculate the cost of gasoline at $ 2.00 per gallon. The Prius costs 4301 cents per mile for fuel. The Corolla costs 6.557 cents per mile for fuel. So the Prius will save approximately 2.26 cents per mile for fuel. This 2.26 cents per mile fuel economy will have to drive the Prius on 294,730 miles to offset the difference Price $ 6,650 and the balance point. While driving the Prius 294,730 miles you will have to replace the battery packs at least twice that cost several thousands of dollars. So you never really the point of equilibrium. Buy the Corolla. You may not feel as good about saving the environment but your wallet will feel better.
