Hybrid Car Gas Savings
Why should I buy a hybrid when it takes 8 years to break even on fuel costs?
I made some simple math and seems to take me 8 years to break even on fuel costs for a Honda Civic sedan vs. a Honda Civic Hybrid. Here are some of my data: hy HC: $ 22,600; average mpg: 50mpg; combustible@15.000 annual cost of miles per year: $ 900. Honda Civic 5 Speed Auto Tranny: 19,500 dollars; mpg average: 35 miles per gallon, annual fuel costs $ 1286. Cost Difference $ 3,100. Fuel savings per year with the hybrid: $ 386. $ 3100/386 = 8 years. Why Why should I buy a hybrid, not the regular 4 Cyl car? Oh, I forgot to mention this is 3 gas prices in dollars. Oh, and I really do not think that driving a hybrid is to save the Earth. Help me. Sticky, I guess the power of my two months of age is more important than the so-called environmental problems. Call me crazy.
Almost never mentioned in this forum is the leading experimental and futuristic concept of "drive slower". A portion of Newton's laws of the state motion that the energy (ie gasoline) required to keep something in motion is a function of the square of velocity. Mathematically, the Ec = 1/2mv ^ 2. But I've never seen anyone this, so I'm seriously thinking of trying this for the good of the land with a 1999 Dodge Caravan for determining fuel consumption in the same in both extended course and whatever 70mph speed limit is the legal minimum. Whenever the Highway Patrol does not pull me in every 20 miles, and assume that I'm drunk. Look for the results in this space soon !!!!!

Honda Civic Hybrid $64.33 The Honda Civic GX is a passenger car that has been created to run on compressed natural gas (CNG). It is a derivative of the Honda Civic, and is sold only in parts of the United States. The Honda Civic Hybrid is a hybrid powertrain version of the Honda Civic sedan. It features a continuously variable transmission and Integrated Motor Assist hybrid system similar to that of the original Honda Insight. Integrated Motor Assist utilizes power assist hybrid technology. The Civic hybrid was introduced in February 2002 as a 2003 model, based on the seventh generation Civic. Along with the conventional Civic, it received styling update for 2004.
