The purchase of hybrid cars … compare MPG or miles per tank?

IM can view this site: i http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/hybrid_sbs_cars.shtml want a hybrid vehicle (I WLD as an SUV but do not think fuel economy is there) … I was initially comparing MPG, so the Prius and Honda Civic hybrids win in 55 and 50 MPG, respectively … But then I see the category of miles on a tank "(hereinafter, ITV) and the Nissan Altima is in 702 MOT (20.gal tank/39 MPG), while the Prius is 589 ITV (11.9 liters in the tank) and the Civic is at 554 ITV (12.3 gal tank). I thought I should look to MPG, but taking into account the different sizes of deposit should focus instead of miles per tank? So the 20 gallons for each vehicle Altima ~ (appox) $ 58, Prius ~ $ 64, and the Civic ~ $ 65 (using its fill SHLD i compare costs Cost / miles on a tank or MPG, or some combination of them Squidgy? His thinking was correct, now you're just confusing yourself. Miles per tank means how far you can drive a tank. Miles per gallon means how far you can drive on a gallon. In terms of fuel economy, miles per gallon is what you want to focus. All you get in miles per tank is how big the fuel tank, which has no nothing to do with fuel economy. For example, my girlfriend's Jeep (~ 20 liter) fuel tank has about half again as big as my Honda (~ 13 liters). But since my Honda (30-35 mpg) gets half again as many miles per gallon in their Jeep (20-25 miles per gallon), both vehicles get about the same miles per tank. This difference is magnified by the fact that the Jeep costs more money to fill (due to higher deposit) than the Honda to drive the same distance.
