Battery Electric Car?

The gem uses 12 deep cycle batteries trojan V cable to provide 48 V. That means there are four of these batteries in series, more may be in parallel with these four possibilities, but basically they are just one of these batteries failed. If you run a voltmeter across each battery, should be able to identify bad fairly quickly, then it is only a matter of replacing battery with 12 V lead acid 12 V, AGM or gel batteries with same size, terminals and capacity. Capacity ranges from 130 to 150 AH AH. A new Trojan actual battery would be about $ 190 (no discount for the old and usually can get a discount), but chances are you could get a used one for less or some other of the lead-acid battery, with dimensions similar (approximately 14 "x 7" x 11 ") and ratings of capacity for less. gel and AGM batteries are sealed, but if they were willing to break seal (dangerous, as it contains hydrochloric acid), it would be possible to drain the acid, clean the mats, the file below the plates, assemble and add acid battery again to rebuild. First of all the 2003 Gem uses six 12v gel batteries (only the very first year of production in 1998 used a 48v system), and yes you can switch over to lead acid batteries from gel, but you need to also send your charger out for an upgrade. It will have a selector switch installed to regulate the charger for different types of charge rates. If you do not do this, do not expect your new leads acid batteries to last for more then a year. Gel batteries require a low amp charge rate, while acid batteries require a higher rate. If you use the high rate on Gel batteries you will cook them, and if you use the low rate on acid batteries you will starve them. Charge you batteries after EVERY use, not just when the needle is low. When you wait until the batteries are low, it takes several hours of intense charging to bring up the charge (which shortens the overall life of the batteries). Short charge cycles are much more benefical for the life of the batteries, and then charger automatically shuts off. These batteries do not have a memory (as many people falsely believe), and they perform much better when they are kept at peak charge. Secret to battery longivity; Check the water more often in the summer then in the winter (acid batteries), keep them clean, keep them charged.
