Is anyone working on a compressed air – Electric hybrid engine?

I'm seeing a lot of articles talking about electric vehicles (investment, research and development, etc.) than I am for but it seems that we are putting all their eggs in the basket of EV. I think also we have to investigate other forms of energy to fuel our cars too. Are there organizations out there that are conducting research in hybrid technologies?
