Prefer a 70 mpg mini cooper diesel, or a Chevrolet Volt? "

In the rare event that they have not heard yet, mini puts out a diesel that gets more 70 mpg. Here is the link. Http: / / reviews.cnet.com/8301-13746_7-10019208-48.html The vehicle is not being released in the States, because they have an adequate supply of low sulfur diesel. Meanwhile, GM has put all their eggs in their volts. Your electric car can go 40 miles on a charge before switching to the gas generator connected. Cool idea. So if you could have one of these cars today, what you choose and why? Personally, I would go for the mini. The mini has a lot space. It is more sporty, and diesel engines have been tried and tested. Not to mention the overall energy efficiency would be higher in the mini. I do not understand what the great thing about the EV and hybrid vehicles is when they can get 70 + MPG.

ULSD is common in the United States. Diesel not sold because they can not pass emission tests. Unless the new technology is the creation of "clean diesel", which can pass the tests, so some companies (ie, Honda, BMW) will begin selling diesel in the U.S. very soon. Except technologies that reduce emissions also decrease fuel efficiency somewhat, and I think that the most expensive cars. Anyway, I would hands-down Volt. I seldom travel more than 40 miles at a pop, so the Volt is rarely used any gas at all. Therefore, it would be much cheaper and cleaner than diesel, the Mini Cooper. Not sure why you think the Mini is better efficiency fuel. Ignoring the electricity used (80 cents worth over 40 miles), the Volt gets 50 mpg in hybrid mode. So it's 40 miles followed almost infinite mpg 50 mpg in hybrid mode – that would be less than 70 mpg in general unless you drive 140 miles without recharging. Yes, I'd choose the Volt. Only I want my next car to be fully electric.
